Creating Great Swimmers
We welcome all non-swimmers to the team.
The Hanarry Hurricanes is dedicated to teaching everyone how to swim with proper technique while building their confidence and endurance in the water. By focusing on comfort and technical fundamentals from the start, we help swimmers develop the foundational skills they need to improve and enjoy the sport for years to come. Please read about how we make this possible.
Learn-to-Swim Opportunities
We have a dedicated Learn-to-Swim program for children ages 4-6 called the Storm Chasers. This is the default placement for all children in this age group, and the vast majority of our 4-6 year-olds practice here. See the Storm Chasers page for more information.
All new swimmers aged 7 and older must attend an assessment practice. This will be a 30-minute practice on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 1:00-1:30 immediately following the Meet and Greet. Our coaches will teach and assess the most important fundamentals for about 30 minutes, and determine which practice group will focus on what your swimmers need to enable the fastest progression possible. If your child has swam for anther team and will able to hop right in, please contact us to let us know.
New swimmers from 7 to 10 typically move into their respective age groups with relative ease. The 8U and 9-10 age groups are still primarily Learn-to-Swim programs, but they are in a large group setting with the Head and Assistant Coaches.
New swimmers from 11 to 18 can pick up skills quite rapidly if they are comfortable in the water, however it may be hard to catch up with their peers who have multiple years of experience. The younger age groups are the best place for them to learn, because they focus on the skills they need. If your new swimmer is unwilling to practice with younger age groups and is placed in a younger age group, private lessons are a great option to accelerate their learning so they can soon begin practicing with swimmers their age.
Head Coach Landon will be at the assessment practice to answer any questions to have, and guide your new swimmer onto the team. Please contact us with any questions. We would love to get your child swimming.
